Hey, Reader!
Today kicks off Negroni Week, a charitable event for bars across the country and a golden opportunity to enjoy the iconic cocktail.
Herbal gin, sweet vermouth and a bitter Italian liqueur called Campari, come together in equal parts to create the classic recipe. From there you can build upon the drink to make it your own.
I'd be remiss if I didn't offer a warning that Negronis are pretty bitter — it comes from the Campari. If that's not your thing, one of the many variations may make it more appealing to you! You can also swap the Campari for something a bit softer, like Aperol.
Here are some recipes to explore this week:
classic negroni
A classic for a reason, this ruby stunner is bittersweet, robust and sophisticated thanks to gin, Campari and sweet vermouth. Once you've mastered the OG recipe, try some riffs to fit different palates.
white negroni
The classic ruby hue is absent in the White Negroni, which uses ingredients with similar flavor profiles to the classic drink for a color-less version. It can be lighter or more bitter than the original, depending on your preferences.
negroni sbagliato
If you're sensitive to bitterness and are looking for something a bit lighter the effervescent Negroni Sbagliato is a popular option. It deviates from the classic recipe by swapping prosecco for gin, resulting in a slightly sweeter, more bubbly drink.
boulevardier
A variation on the Negroni, this drink is bold in color and flavor thanks to — you guessed it — Campari! It's another classic cocktail that at-home bartenders should know, and perfect for sipping this week thanks to its similarities to the Negroni.
jungle bird
Okay, this one's not a Negroni... However, Campari is an essential ingredient! The Jungle Bird is more balanced, thanks to sweetness from dark rum, pineapple juice and lime. Take a tropical trip with every sip of this fun tiki classic!
