Hey, Reader!
Not every drink needs to be a thing. Most weeknights call for something easy, comforting and just a little special — no shakers and no overthinking required.
Whether you’re drinking alcohol, skipping it right now or somewhere in between, these low-pressure drink ideas are perfect for everyday evenings.
something bubbly and cold
When in doubt, keep it simple. On their own, sparkling water, tonic or soda instantly feel intentional. Add citrus, a splash of syrup or a dash of bitters and you’re done.
This is one of my favorite weeknight moves because it works for everyone and takes about 30 seconds. A bitters and soda is a go-to at my house — here are my favorite bitters.
a simple highball
A highball can be just one base plus one mixer — and it doesn’t have to be boozy. Think spirit or zero-proof alternative with soda, tonic, ginger beer or cola.
You can also keep things lighter by using a half pour, a split base (half spirit, half zero-proof) or extra mixer.
fun with glassware
Sometimes it’s not about what you’re drinking — it’s how you’re drinking it. A wine glass has a way of signaling “the day is done.”
This is one of my favorite weeknight tricks: Try pouring a simple drink into your favorite glass or mug and letting that be enough. Same drink, totally different vibe.
something warm and cozy
Weeknight drinks don’t have to be cold. Tea, hot cocoa, apple cider or cozy toddy-style sips can be just as satisfying.
Warm drinks are underrated and wildly comforting. My go-tos are this honey citrus mint tea or a non-alcoholic hot toddy.
the no-recipe mindset
Here’s your permission slip: you don’t need a recipe. Use what you have, eyeball the ratios, grab a glass you love and call it good.
If you’ve downloaded my free cocktail cheat sheet before, this is a wonderful week to revisit it. The simple ratio works just as well with spirits as it does with zero-proof alternatives.
If you do want ideas that live somewhere between mocktail and cocktail, I’ve also shared a roundup of low-ABV cocktails that are easy to bookmark for later.
Cheers,
Susannah
