Hey, Reader!

When people think of whiskey, they often picture sitting with a glass in hand by the fire while a winter storm rages outside. I mean, that would be a great time to have a glass, so they aren't wrong!

BUT, there are plenty of ways to enjoy whiskey when it's warm too. Instead of sipping it straight, use it as an ingredient in a cocktail with other ingredients for a refreshing sip. This is also a great option for anyone still dipping their toes into enjoying bourbon, since it can be a bit of an acquired taste.

Since September is Bourbon Heritage Month, these drinks are just the thing to celebrate with!

kentucky buck

With fresh berries, lemon juice and zingy ginger beer, the Kentucky buck is a refreshing and balanced cocktail that’s made to enjoy on hot days. The sweetness and brightness of the berries balance out the smoky, oaky, caramel and vanilla flavors of the bourbon.

blackberry old-fashioned

Old-fashioneds are some of my most requested recipes, and for good reason! The classic combo is easy to transform depending on the season or your mood — fresh blackberry syrup gives this variation a slightly sweet, fruit-forward profile.

kentucky mule

This twist on the classic Moscow mule is definitely bourbon forward. Not to worry though, it's balanced with lime and ginger beer. Together, they are a charming combo that brightens the complex flavors of Kentucky whiskey.

gold rush cocktail

If you need an easy cocktail that has a lovely smooth flavor, this is it. The unique flavor of bourbon whiskey is key to the flavor of this cocktail and adds so much warmth and depth. Mix that with a sweet honey syrup and the tart bite of lemon juice and you’ve got a truly irresistible combo.

peach whiskey smash

Sweet peaches are a welcome compliment to bold bourbon in this simple smash cocktail. I love that smashes are so easy to make and have flexible recipes that work with what you have on hand!

If you have a favorite bottle of bourbon already in your home bar, use that! But if you're ready to try something new, I've rounded up all my favorites in one place.

Cheers!
