Hey, Reader!
Rum is light and bright, making it work especially well in summery cocktails, from tiki drinks to classic recipes. Even as summer draws to a close, the weather is still hot and these drinks sure hit the spot!
This sugarcane-based spirit is mostly produced in the Caribbean countries, where sugarcane thrives in the tropical climate. No wonder it works so well with tropical tastes!
With National Rum Day coming up on August 16, here are some favorites to celebrate with (but you can enjoy them anytime):
rum old-fashioned
This is a simple twist on a classic cocktail that is easy for beginners yet creates a drink with complex flavors. Your favorite aged rum packs a punch in this spirit-forward sipper.
queens park swizzle
With gorgeous layers of color and bold flavor, the queens park swizzle is one of my current favorite sips. It’s crisp, minty, and just the right amount of boozy.
hurricane
The hurricane is a fan-favorite rum drink in New Orleans — and beyond! This classic cocktail is made with two kinds of rum, lemon juice and passionfruit syrup. It's a great one to sip in the sweltering heat.
rum hot toddy
Once the weather cools, the rum hot toddy is something soothing and warm. It holds onto the tropical, tiki vibes of some of the summer sippers but brings its own coziness thanks to lemon juice and honey.
daiquiri
Rum is a staple in daiquiri recipes, combining rum with citrus and a sweetener. The original is a sweet sipper with plenty of room for variation, so there's something everyone will love. (But definitely don't confuse it with the slushy machine version!)
For any rum lovers, this homemade spiced rum needs to be on your radar. It also makes a great gift if you're starting to plan ahead for the holidays!
Cheers!
