Hey, Reader!
Mojitos are made for summertime sipping. With fresh mint, tart lime juice and a splash of soda, it's easy and refreshing. Plus, you can transform the recipe to incorporate your favorite flavors.
Without the booze, everyone can enjoy this slightly sweet sipper. It only takes a few quick swaps to make this mocktail version for any summer celebrations you have coming up. Here's how to take any recipe and make it without the alcohol:
1. be free-spirited
Most mojitos star rum, which is a simple swap to make. You can skip the rum altogether β the other flavors will shine without it. This virgin mojito is a tried-and-true crowd pleaser! If you'd like to add in some additional notes, you can use a non-alcoholic spirit.
Some of the non-alcoholic rums that I have tried have been a little more on the spiced side, which makes them brown, but there are some that are clear and taste a little bit more herbal that are more like a non-alcoholic gin. Those might work better for getting across layers of flavor.
Two zero-proof spirits that are most similar to white rum are Seedlip Garden 108, which contains notes of peas, rosemary and thyme, and Lyreβs White Cane Spirit with flavors of citrus, oak and sugar cane. Both of these would be good choices for this non-alcoholic mojito recipe.
2. ingredients matter
When you're crafting a drink, you always want to use quality ingredients. Using things like fresh lime juice and fresh mint will give your drink the best flavor.
When it comes to sweetener, I like to make my own simple syrup at home. You can make a mint simple syrup if you prefer additional mint flavor.
3. add a twist
Once you've mastered the classic recipe, try a different flavor to fit your mood. Lemon, watermelon, or coconut are all fit for summer sipping.
Cheers!
