Hey, Reader!
It feels like every time I check my Instagram there's a trendy new coffee drink that everyone is enjoying. Honestly? It gets a little overwhelming sometimes.
Luckily I have a drink I know I can fall back on when I need a pick-me-up on hot days: coffee soda. Iβve loved making my coffee sodas ever since I tried one at a fancy coffee shop years ago. Fizzy and dark, it's a totally different way to enjoy an iced coffee.
With a few simple ingredients, you'll be on your way to staying cool with every sip.
make your base
βCold brew coffee concentrate is always on-hand at my house. You only need two ingredients for good, strong coffee that's cheaper than store-bought. Plus, it has a less bitter and acidic flavor than regular hot coffee because cold water makes the coffee take longer to oxidize.
Once you've brewed it, it keeps in the fridge for a little over a week so you're ready to enjoy anytime. (That said, I've been known to use the leftover coffee from my pot for an afternoon pick-me-up.)
sweet options
βVanilla syrup is the default for this recipe, but feel free to experiment to fit your tastes. Caramel syrup, cinnamon dolce syrup or any of your favorite flavors will work to add a subtle sweetness to your coffee.
don't forget the bubbles
I chose club soda for my coffee soda, but any unflavored sparkling water or seltzer works just as well β you just want plain bubbles, no sweetness. Feeling adventurous? A splash of ginger ale or lemon-lime soda adds a little sweetness and a fun twist. Whatever you choose, the bubbles are what make this more refreshing than your typical iced coffee!
While this may seem like an interesting combination of ingredients, I hope you give it a try. Let me know if you love it!
Cheers!
