Hey, Reader!
When I first set out to create non-alcoholic sangria, I was a bit nervous. After all, this is a drink that's based on wine. I didn't want to sacrifice the depth of flavor for something that tasted like a fruit punch.
After some experimenting, I had my taste tester (AKA my husband) try a glass. He was shocked that there was no alcohol, so I consider this a smashing success! Here's how I made it:
two are better than one
Most non-alcoholic sangria recipes use grape juice or cranberry juice, but I was missing the melding of flavors from wine and fruit that you would expect from sangria. To get a dryness that mimics red wine, I used a combination of cranberry and pomegranate juice β the two together offer a deeper flavor that is hard to beat!
build with balance
With so many available add-ins, it's easy to get carried away. Make sure to fill your pitcher about one-third with fruit, so the rest is balanced out with liquid. Consider additions like fresh fruit, herbs or even frozen fruit to help keep things cold on hot days.
save your fave
If you already have a go-to sangria recipe, you can make simple swaps to make it a non-alcoholic sip. Orange juice is a good replacement for triple sec, the orange liqueur that is a common ingredient in sangria recipes. If your recipe has brandy instead, use apple juice.
For the wine, use a non-alcoholic wine that aligns with the recipe (red, white, etc.). A word of caution when it comes to non-alcoholic wines: They can be a bit unpredictable when it comes to flavor, so it may take some trial and error taste testing to find what works best.
Let me know what you think, and if you find that this recipes fools your taste buds too.
Enjoy!
